Punxatawney, PA - In an unexpected turn of events, the Sacramento
franchise won five games in a row and entered the
playoffs. Then the team proceeded to lose two
straight
at home. It looked like the year was finally over,
and the defending champs sweeped from the playoffs
after losing the first home playoff game 2-1 and the
second home playoff game 7-2. The next game was played
in Punxatawney, and Sacramento, already down two
games, were unlikely to rebound at the opponents
field. Then they unexpectedly won the third
playoff game 8-5, and then they won the 4th playoff
game 7-3.
Maybe it wasn't as unexpected as it would normally
seem. Teams are normally better at home,
especially during the postseason, but the Otters
are a strange team. They are the only team to
enter the playoffs this year with a losing record at
home, so losing at home, and then winning on the
road should be a surprise. Future playoff games
in Sacramento (38-43), that extend to extra innings
(3-10), and ending in 1-run games (21-21), are almost
sure to be Otter loses. Out of all the playoff teams,
Sacramento seemed likely to be the first out of the
playoffs. Entering the World Series this year
would be almost as unbelievable as winning the
world series last year (especially sine no champion
has repeated yet). History is against the Otters, but
then they like playing against the odds.
