Milwaukee WI (AP) - Phoenix Gila Monsters shortstop Derek Jeter and pitcher Shane Reynolds were both awarded player and pitcher of the month awards for April. Jeter hit .413 in April, with 8 homeruns and 23 RBIs. Jeter also walked an amazing 18 times in the month and swiped 9 bases. Reynolds hurled his way to a perfect 4-0 record with just an 0.81 ERA. Right handed batters are hitting a chilly .115 against him.

In the EL, Alex Rodriguez hit a blistering .418, with 8 homeruns and 19 RBIs -- numbers very similar to his counterpart Jeter in the DL. He drew 13 walks while striking out just once in 98 at-bats. He is hitting nearly .500 against right-handed pitching. New Diggens Budweiser Frogs' starter John Smiley earned the EL pitcher of the month award by craftily pitching his way to a perfect 4-0 record with just a 0.49 ERA. Smiley did not allow a home run in 37 innings pitched, as well as recording five quality starts in five games.

Other notable performances included Glenallen Hill's nine homeruns for Shawnee, Ramon Martinez's five wins in the month for New Jersey, and Matt Morris' 6 losses for Coos Bay in the DL. In the EL, Carlos Delgado hit 9 homeruns for New Diggens and Ken Griffey, Jr. knocked in 27 RBIs for Motor City. EL pitching performances of note were Sterling Hitchcock's 5 win month, and Scott Sanders' 0-0 record after pitching a 1.87 ERA for Ann Arbor.
