The savior of the Deadwood Outlaws signed his contract today, and the
organization breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
2B Carlos Lee, taken 15th overall in the recent Amateur draft had threatened
to sit out the season and re-enter the draft if the Deadwood Outlaws would
take him in the draft. Lee was willing to play for any other team, his
represenatives told Outlaw officials. GM Philip Raisor took him anyway, when
he became available at the 15th spot in the draft.
That's when the war started. Lee refused to come to the microphone, where
PVBL Commisioner Matt Peck was standing with Raisor, and actually stormed out
of the building. However, within minutes, lawyers for the Outlaws were on
the phone with Lee's agent and an offer was made, 5 years $8 Million a year,
with a $12 Million signing bounus.
Lee signed the proposed contract earlier today, and has reported to Deadwood.
Part of his contract states that he will not spend any time in the minor
leagues, unless as part of a injury rehab assignment. Look for Lee to split
time with Frank Catlanotto at second for a few weeks while Lee gets used to
major league pitching.
