The Mississauga MapleDogs have pulled off two huge deals this past
weekend with the other big 'Dogs' in the PVBL. The first one saw them
trade one of their big name pitchers while the other one gave them
something they desperately wanted, a stud pitcher.
A swap with the Edmonton Sled Dogs saw both Alex Rodriguez and Vladimir
Guerrero say "Man, I'm glad I didn't get traded", while Mississauga
received Garrett Anderson and Francisco Cordova for Curt Schilling.
"We need to get younger. It's pretty simple. Anderson is just another
big, big hitter that we just couldn't resist. In fact, I don't know what
we'll do with all this offense. Cordova is probably one of the best
relievers in the PVBL and we've been needing one of those real bad."

The other trade did involve some of that excess offense going to the
Washington Sea Dogs in the form of Dave Nilsson. In return the MapleDogs
got super-stud Art Cliburn, another good pitching prospect in Randy
Davis, catcher Eddie Taubensee and Washington's 1st round FA pick.
"It was real hard to trade Nilsson. I mean, he had the Aussie
philosophy and that was just can't be replaced. There was the fact that
he was a catcher too, but we couldn't pass up Cliburn. Plus Aaron
offered Randy Davis, his 1st round FA pick and even Eddie Taubensee to
ease the pain. Catching's tough to come by, but so is good young
pitching, and that's what we wanted." Gouldson said.
