MapleDogs are MapleCrappy
July 21, 2001

Why do the Mississauga MapleDogs suck so much? That's the question that's been plaguing everone's mind, especially MapleDog owner and GM Jesse Gouldson.

"I really can't explain it. It seems like there's been a curse on us since the beginning of the year. Leefenhaufenhauz goes down in his first start as a MapleDog, Curt (Schilling) is a shell of his former self, (Rolando) Arrojo and (Chan Ho) Park have both gone down with injuries, Nilsson and Nomar have both been out for periods of time and no one is pulling their weight at all. I'm flabber-fucking-gasted." Gouldson said.

"Honestly, I think those New Orleans Vampires have stolen our winning secret. They've got all those voodoo fans down there and it's obvious to me that they've cast a spell, probably after being threatened by that Jeremy Chrabacsz character. He's always up to no good." Gouldson added.

All this has culminated with Mississauga's current 10 game losing streak. In a division that is loaded with so much talent that it's oozing out of their ears, Mississauga sits in last place in the Kirk with a record of 34-44.

The Kirk has always been the home of great pennant races come September, but it seems the heat in the races is keeping pace with the summer temperature, as this is what the standings look like in late June...
Kirk Division W L Pct. GB L-10 Strk
Tijuana Border Patrol 42 34 .553 --- 7-3 W 1
New Diggens Budweiser Frogs 41 36 .532 1.5 3-7 W 1
Medina Mustangs 38 39 .494 4.5 9-1 W 3
Motor City Madmen 37 39 .487 5.0 5-5 L -1
Mississauga MapleDogs 33 43 .434 9.0 0-10 L -10

It is easily the tightest race in the whole PVBL. Mississauga and Medina have almost switched places completely while Tijuana has finally passed New Diggens in the standings for the first time this season.

Incredibly, the MapleDogs have benefitted from this recent slide. On the heels of a stacked amateur draft there was a splurge of free agent signings. Based on their current record they were 6th in the pecking order and were able to pick up 3 promising pitchers in Danny Lee, Ted Chapman and Charlie Keener.

"We're very happy with those guys, all of them have 3 strong pitches that will continue to get better as their control develops. I guess there's a good side to everything." Gouldson said.
