Steinbach Returns To Tri-States
August 29, 2001

Galena, IL--Terry Steinbach, 36, returned to northwestern Illinois last night in dramatic fashion. Arriving just two hours before the game, Steinbach suited up for catching duties and proceeded to hit two home runs and drive in three runs in a 12-6 Galena victory, "It was amazing," remarked Steinbach, "this has been a great year for me. A career year. I liked Motor City, but our playoff chances were non-existant after the injuries. Now I have a chance to get to the world series. We got a good shot."

Steinbach has been with Motor City for over 3 seasons, however, he played with New Diggens during PVBL's first season in 1997. New Diggens is only 7 miles away from Galena, "I never wanted to leave the area," notes Steinbach, "but people get traded in baseball...it's life. Now I'm back and I'd like to finish my career here. I can finish with a winner...go out with a bang."

Steinbach was obtained on August 20th for a package of prospects that included 3B Dave Kelly, CF Brian Foley, and RHP Pete Douglas. The Hamsters also obtained Motor City's 3rd round amateur draft pick in the deal.

"Douglas was the key to the deal," said GM/owner Matthew Peck, "Douglas has the chance to be a very good major league starter. And he's not too far away from the show. [Galena] hates to lose a prospect like Douglas, but admitedly we have a surplus. We've already got a great starting rotation. Douglas would have been roadblocked in Galena. Now he has an opportunity with Motor City."

Steinbach is expected to get the majority of time behind the plate for Galena, as well as seeing some time as DH.
