Pedro back, Stahoviak out
September 1, 2001

(AP Ann Arbor - The AllKnighters welcomed back pitcher Pedro Martinez while placing 1B Scott Stahoviak on the DL. Pedro had been out with a shoulder injury for more then two months. At the time of the injury Pedro was leading the AllKnighter staff with an ERA of 2.94 in 88.2 IP.

Stahoviak, the AllKnighters cleanup hitter, was hitting .295 with 22 homeruns and 81 RBIs. Stahoviak, who had allegedly been on the trade block, will be replaced at 1B by rookie Derek Lee. Lee has split time between DH and RF hitting his way into the lineup. Lee has hit .279 with 13 HR and 41 RBI, mostly from the bottom of the AllKnighter lineup.

Other changes include field manager Buddy Bell announcing that, at least for the remainder of the season, the experiment with putting Ira Colon into the closer role has come to an end. Colon, who has an ERA of 2.64 and was perfect in the pen, has been a stalwart in the AllKnighters rotation and is the AllKnighters #3 starter behind Martinez and Paul Wilson. Rookies Russ Ortiz and John Snyder round out the rotation.
