AllKnighters pull off trade with Carolina
August 2, 2001
Ann Arbor (AP) - Today the AllKnighters sent young SS Ron Choate to
the Carolina Kings for RP Jeff Juden.
Choate had been with the AllKnighters since the beginning of their
inaugural season as he was one of the teams first acquisitions, being
acquired in a deal with the Medina Mustangs for 3B George Bosser. Choate
played several positions in his 2+ seasons with the AllKnighters,
serving as both a starter and the teams primary utility player.
"We really did like Ron here, he was a great guy off the bench as he had
an outstanding glove and budding power. He was also a very good
clubhouse presence, but with the arrival of Aramis Ramirez and our
crowded middle infield Ron figured to be the odd man out," said field
manager Buddy Bell. "Since we lost (Scott) Sanders to the Mustangs and
Pedro (Martinez) to injury, we really needed a veteran. Juden has a good
arm, a good career profile and should be a good fit in our pen for
awhile, helping out some of our younger pitchers and should help ease
Scott Williamson into a prominent role in our pen. He should also see
some save oppurtunities as this season goes on."
Juden has a 3.70 ERA and a career ERA of 3.82 while holding opposing
hitters to a sub-.400 OPS. Juden also has 14 career saves.
