Hill, Offense on Same Page
April 22, 2001

Anchorage AK (AP) - In what has been a rocky start to the 2001 season, the Abominations were able to put together a solid offensive game with an equally solid performance from their pitching staff and walked away the victors in the second game of the three game series versus rival Ann Arbor, 5- 1. Anchorage starter Ken Hill lasted eight innings giving up six hits and surrendering just one run. The 'Boms bats also lit up for 12 hits, including a homerun by first baseman Mark Grace.

Grace had been bench previously in favor of lefty slugger Darryl Strawberry, but was recently returned to the field after John Jaha committed a game- deciding error. "Its good to have a presence like Mark's on the field. He is such a solid defender that you almost take it for granted. He'll be in there the rest of the season, you can count on that." said Nick Tulach, owner and manager of the Abominations.

Anchorage AK (AP) - After a pair of hard-fought victories over rival Ann Arbor, the Abominations failed to sweep the last-place AllKnighters in an extra- inning thriller at Poopmoose Park. Ann Arbor first baseman Scott Stahoviak and right fielder Orlando Merced went a combined 6 for 10 with 4 RBIs en route to the 5-2 victory.

Anchorage starter Buddy Moisan ahd another excellent start, but was not able to get the run support he needed to earn the victory. "Our offense isn't where it should be yet. Hopefully our guys can pick it up a bit and turn games like this into victories." said Moisan, who is 2-0.

Notes:

- Anchorage dealt veteran outfielder Tony Gwynn to the New Jersey Shores in exchange for a future draft pick. Gwynn has been parked in AAA this season since Anchorage called up rookie Geoff Jenkins and newly-acquired free agent Darryl Strawberry. "We felt this wuld give Gwynn a chance to play some. New Jersey is a serious contender, as are we, and we felt, along with Mr. Jankowski, that Tony could help their team make the playoffs." said Anchorage GM "the Man".

- Anchorage is still waving outfielder Marquis Grissom and pitchers Eddie Guardado, Vaughn Eshelman, Steve Woodard, Steve Tsamis, Marc Wilkins, and Scott Service around, looking for possible offers. The 'Boms are said to be interested in prospects and/or draft picks in the upcoming amateur draft.
