Pirates Search for "Perfect Deal" January 15, 2000
The Pirates have continued to be active on the phones,
trying to make that "perfect deal" that will bring a championship
to the Inland Northwest. This trade isn't it, but it will help.
Spokane sent Derek Bell and minor league pitching prospect
Pete Daley to the Springfield Atoms in exchange for veterans
Glenallen Hill and John Valentin. "It is a good trade for both clubs,"
said GM Stephens "we have been so concerned about our pitching
staff that we lost sight of offense, this is just a good correction."
With the addition of rookie Russ Ortiz {aquired in the draft} to the
already young pitching staff, Daley became expendable.
