Phoenix(AP) - The Phoenix Gila Monsters, apparently not satisfied with
starting the season with the league's best record, continued building
for this year's playoffs. Phoenix traded young players Chan Ho Park,
Shannon Stewart, 1B prospect David Ortiz, and their second round
amatuer pick to the defending world champion Deadwood Outlaws. In
return, Phoenix received the experience it feels it needs for the
playoffs, in the form of Greg Maddux, Rafael Palmerio, and Steve
Finley.
"We hated to give up that many young players, but we feel that this
year is out best chance.", said Phoenix GM Patrick Bridges. "Pedro
(Astacio) should have recovered from his injury by the time the
playoffs get here, and we feel that the playoff experience these
players bring to us should be just what we need to make our best shot
at the playoffs, and, hopefully, the World Series."
