After trading the team's manager, hiring a new one, and trading for a number
two starter, Phil Raisor and the Deadwood Outlaws are ready to defend the
PVBL World Title for the year 2000.
Former manager Johnny Bench was rehired after Don Slaught was traded to
Moncton, to restart his playing career. Raisor had nothing but good things
to say about Slaught, "Don got us a world championship, what more is there
to say?"
2B Roberto Alomar, injured in the world series, was allowed to leave as a
free agent after activating a clause that allowed him to do so after a World
Series win. He signed a multi-year contract with Kamloop for less money
then he was making in Deadwood. Raisor thinks Alomar's agent made a
mistake, "Robby's agent made a huge [expletive deleted] mistake! He was
signed to a guranteed contract for 7 million a year! He blows his knee,
demands a new contract, and signs with another team for less money..Weird.,
"said Raisor.
Alomar will probably miss the first half of the season while recovering from
knee surgery.
Shortly after Alomar signed with Kamloop, Raisor traded Super-Sub Rich
Amaral and a draft pick to Galena for SS Jeff Blauser. Blauser will play
short and bat second for the Outlaws. "Jeff will be solid, and should score
a ton of runs batting in front of [Brad] Fullmer and [Rafael] Palmerio.
This was a great deal for us," exclaimed Raisor.
