The Montreal Royals tied the Edmonton Sled Dogs for first place in the
division after taking two lopsided victories over the Hartford Vampires.
For most of the season the Royals have been hovering over .500 by a few
games and the Sled Dogs were one of the best teams in the league. But the
baseball fans have witnessed the most amazing reversal of fortune in PVBL
history. Both first place teams are exactly 20 games over .500. In the last
10 games the Montreal Royals gained 6 games to tie the division. "This late
in the season, I thought they would have fallen short," says Edmonton
shortstop Alex Rodrigez. "What scares me is that their infallible
determination seems almost inhuman."
The Royals haven't won the division yet. "We've only won half the battle,"
says manager Gary Carter. "The second half is actually winning the
division." The question is, if the division were still tied by the end of
the season, who would make it to the playoffs?
"We'll let the computer determine that," says Royals centerfielder Brady
Anderson. "Right now, we have some games to win."

Right now, there's another heated race going on of lesser repute. The
Medina Mustangs are neck-and-neck with the Deadwood Outlaws for futility.
Who will win that race? The ineffective pitching of the Outlaws or the
inept bats of the Mustangs?
