Sled Dogs Celebrating A Little Too Early? August 30, 2000
Edmonton(AP)- It seems last years lesson didn't sink through the Sled
Dogs. After spending much of last season in 1st place, then seeing
Deadwood overtake the Sled Dogs, you'd think these guys would learn.
"I'm seeing the same patterns," said GM Brian Sculac."It seems they
think the Division's won, their sitting back and not putting out a
complete effort." It showed last night as the Sled Dogs were trounced
9-3 by the Montreal Royals, who are now only 11 games back of Edmonton.
"We had a great start to the season, going 27-5. Since then, we've been
a .500 club." The Sled Dogs have lost 8 of their last 10 games and have
watched the Montreal Royals creep ever closer. GM Sculac was seen(and
heard)last night in the locker room delivering a tirade. "Aw, I just
told em to smarten up and start playing Baseball."smiled GM Sculac.
-the much anticipated return of 3b Robin Ventura should happen this
week. Ventura was on a career pace before being injured early in the
season. In 89 games he had 35 Homers and 75 Rbi's.
-The Sled Dogs need a leadoff man. Vladdie Guerrero has been okay,
hitting .282 with an OBA of .336. But he only has 6 stolen bases. He
shouldn't be batting first.
