PVBL: Mississauga Maple Dogs
Mississauga has healthy lead

September 23, 2000

The Mississauga MapleDogs have a 7 game lead over the Tijuana Broder Partol in the Kirk Division. Both teams have 9 games left to play though, and as we've learned from the McCoy and Riker divisions, anything is possible in the playoff race.

"We're starting to pull away from Tijuana so it's not as tense around the clubhouse. We got a bunch of people coming back from injury, Reggie Jefferson and Manny Ramirez are both rehabing fine and should be back right in time for the playoffs." Gouldson said.

The M-Dogs lead had been dwindling away since the all-star break. "It seemed every week that went by they picked up a couple of games. We were really starting to feel the heat." pitcher Kevin Brown said. Luckily, the Border Patrol lost 4 in a row while Mississauga is on a 6 game win streak. "I can't wait until we clinch, then we'll get a break until the playoffs." Derrick Gibson said, pointing to Gouldson's relunctance to rest his players while there's still something on the line.

Mississauga had also beaten Anchorage in a series not too long ago with a beer at stake. "Nick, I expect it on my doorstep tomorrow morning, and while you're out, pick me up some buffalo wings." Gouldson said.

As for the free agent protection plan, Mississauga seems to be the team with the most talent that will be left unprotected. Rumours are that older yet high quality players such as Edgar Martinez, Rolando Arrojo and David Wells will not be able to be protected. More to come on that later.
