Hall of Famer and former Cubs great Ferguson Jenkins was named the new
manager of the Mississauga MapleDogs today. He replaces centerfielder
F.P. Santangelo, who was acting as player/manager.
"I really don't mind at all. In fact, he'll help us out enormously. I
was getting a little tired of managing anyway. Fergy is gonna be a
breath of fresh air." Santangelo stated at his last press conference as
Maple Dog manager.
GM Gouldson explained his decision, "F.P. was really doing a great job,
but our main problem is pitching. I know that sounds odd considering the
staff we have, but that's were we've lost games. It's great to get a
hold of such a great player. Plus, he's Canadian and it's no secret I'm
a little biased."
Jenkins seemed to be calm yet eager to get going with his new club. "I
see a championship ball club here. There is just so much talent here.
There's Brown, Arrojo, Boomer but The Big Curt is on the DL. He should
start rehab soon. Then there's the offense. I don't even have to touch
that. I can't wait for my first game."
In other news:
Three of the top 4 teams in the PVBL have the word Dog in their name.
Coincidence? We'll just have to wait and see... :-)
