The Mississauga MapleDogs have traded slugger Dean Palmer, Felipe Lira
and their 1st round Free Agent pick for starting pithcer David Wells and
relievers Curt Leskanic and Randy Myers.
"I believe this deal instantly makes our rotation the best in the EL
and our bullpen definately one of the better." GM Jesse Gouldson said in
a press conference announcing the major deal. The 5 player trade was the
first trade made by Gouldson, who has a penchant for making the big
deals, since the middle of last season.
The rotation now consists of Cy Young winner Kevin Brown, the beast
from the East Curt Schilling, sophmore phenom Rolando Arrojo, the great
overachiever Steve Trachsel and now the one and only David "Boomer"
Wells.
Dean Palmer, who is having a great season in the M-Dogs power packed
lineup, was bound to leave town as it is wide spead knowledge that
Gouldson was eager to get 22-year old super-prospect Troy Glaus some
playing time. "I'm looking forward to both the present and the future of
this franchise. With Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, Derrick Gibson
and Troy Glaus, the future of the offense is in good hands." Gouldson
said.
As for the pitching, which is now quite good but quite old, still has a
bright future. "Well, we have only 3 pitchers on the Active Roster under
30 years of age, but we still have Brian Rose, Courtney Duncan and
Charlie Blasingame who will all be solid major leaguers. Plus, we know
when to rebuild, and I think we can get some good stuff with the players
we'll trade. But not now! Now we're going for it all." player/manager
F.P. Santangelo said.
Leskanic and Myers are both having rough starts to the year, ERA's over
10.00, but both have career ERA's of 2.81. "They'll come around, they're
professionals. Plus, with an old bullpen like ours, they'll feel right
at home." Gouldson said, refering to players like Eric Plunk, Dan Plesac
and the only known fossil that can pitch, Dave Stieb.
