PVBL: Medina Mustangs
Mustangs Tank Season

June 15, 2000

Mustangs owner Randy Reese had the opportunity to join a few different fellow owners at Cafe IRC for coffee over the last few days. The biggest question the owners asked were, "Why are you tanking the season?"

"Tanking, who is tanking?"

"You are, all your good pitchers are in AAA!"

At this point, Reese could not help but let out a long, sustained guffaw.

"How can that be tanking? With all my best players I have only been able to manage a .197 winning percent! I am 9.5 games behind the second worst team in all of PVBLdom. My starters garnered me the worst record ever in the history of the PVBL last year, and I am on pace to break that record this year. If my so called starters cant do it, there needs to be a shakeup. Im going to give the bench riders a chance to earn a starting job."

Reese thought he would at least improve on last years record by building one of the league strongest pitching staff, at least on paper.

"Erickson, Mussina, Lopez, Tomko, Beck, Pervical. Geez, I figured we would win some games!"

Reese has continued to build an already strong pitching staff. Today he sent P David Hess, 1B Todd Helton, and 3B Aramis Ramirez to Houston for P Pat Hentgen.

"Wow! Thats really a heck of a staff! If this doesnt win some games, I dont know what will!"

Reese has reassured all the other owners in the league that the normal starters are only going to miss one start.

"Maybe riding the bus will wake some of our guys up. This will also give us a chance to see what our other players can do....perhaps they will impress another team wnough to make an offer on them."
