Moncton/Brownsville pull off blockbuster trade August 24, 2000
Pending league approval, the Moncton Moose have sent right fielder Shawn Green, their first round FA pick, starting pitcher Bruce Timlin and backup catcher George Williams to Brownsville for Jeff Halloney, Matt Anderson and catcher Brian Speigel.
"This trade took several days to finilize, but we are happy with what we got, suring up out pitching staff for next year." said Moose manager Brooks Robinson at a press conference today. When asked about loosing Green; "Yeh, it's hard loosing a guy like Shawn, he put up good offensivre numbers this year to go with his stellar defense". Green is currently hitting .326 with 12 homers and 48 rbi's.
Moncton's new looked rotation now features, Soloman Torres, Jeff Halloney, Cliff Magrane, Mark Mulder and Paul Wagner. It's a young staff to be sure, but they should be able to compete with the best of 'em next season. And with two fireballers in the pen, Matt Anderson and Joe Hetrick, Moncton's pitching should not be a problem next year. Brien Speigel, unlike his situation in Brownsville, should get a chance to play in Moncton, platooning with Marcus Jensen.
The Moose completed another deal today, sending backup catcher Don Slaught back home to the Deadwood Outlaws. In return Moncton recieved Deadwood's third round ammy pick next season.
