Blazers One Of Pvbl'S Pleasant Surprises Of 2000 April 27, 2000
KAMLOOPS, BC- The morale in the Blazers' clubhouse this week is at its
highest since the team moved out west late last season thanks to back to
back wins over perennial contender Galena. Kamloops, while still not
considering themselves a contender, is only one game under .500
at 10-11, pretty good for a team that finished with the second to worst
record in 1999.
Along with this solid improvement, the Blazers' are one of the league's
youngest organizations and have so much talent in their farm system that
there wasn't room for future star Angel Kaat, who was traded to Medina
at the onset of this season. That trade landed Kamloops the #1 Overall
Amateur pick for the June 2000 draft, which now gives the Blazers the
first two picks in the upcoming draft. We also cannot forget that
all-star 2B Roberto Alomar will also be joining this team as soon as he
completes his rehabilitation following a devastating injury in last
year's world series. Yes this team's future looks good....real good.
"We're certainly excited about our team," GM and owner Paul Glass said
following a 15-6 drubbing of Galena, in which recent acquisition Chris
Hoiles knocked in six runs thanks to two homers. "Our off season
acquisitions Charlie (Hoiles) and Bob (Peterman) have been fitting
in beautifully and we expect big things from Burns once he returns to
action later this week."
When asked if he had any more trades in mind, Glass answered "With the
way things are going so far this season, I don't think we need anything
now. We've had tons of requests for our two ammy picks but I have no
plans to trade them at this time."
