Lakeland, FL (AP)- Although its product is on the verge of being banned
in a number of states, the company that produces SPAM has invested a
significant amount of money to become the primary sponsor of a minor league
pepper baseball team. The team, which will be known as the Lakeland (FL)
Sea Bass, seemed pleased with the idea. "There's nothing quite like SPAM,"
said Player/Manager Doug Drabek. Indeed. As a sign of good faith and
incentive, the SPAM corporation sent each Sea Bass player's family 5 cases
of SPAM. "Wow," rookie hurler Matt Clement reacted, "I may not have gotten
my wife and I that fat contract with the Vampires just yet but at least we
don't have to worry about groceries this season. Hell, that's breakfast
lunch and dinner right there!" Clement's wife could not be reached for
comment. In the meantime, the Sea Bass will play in, of all places, SPAM
park.
