Galena, IL--Darryl Kile treated his Galena teammates to a splendid New
Year's party at his mansion at the Galena Territory. Kile had every reason
to celebrate. His Hamsters are perennial hundred game winners and Kile had
just come off one of his finest seasons ever, winning 18 games and helping
to lead the Hamsters to their third straight Spock Division title.
Unfortunately for Mr. Kile, he was forced to put his mansion up for
sale--Tampa Bay, Florida is a hell of a commute!
Darryl Kile was traded to the Tampa Bay Mets late this morning. The Hamsters
obtained SS prospect Miguel Tejada and Tampa Bay's 1st round amateur draft
pick in the deal. Rumors had been spreading that the Hamsters were in search
of minor league prospects for Kile, and in this case, the rumors were true.
Kile, reached via phone from his Galena Territory mansion, was
understandably a bit perplexed and miffed about the trade, "It doesn't make
any damn sense. They say they're shipping me out because they want to try
some young arms in the rotation. That's crazy! I'm a proven ace starter. I
do not want to leave Galena, but I'm going to make the best of it in Tampa
Bay. I hear the women are better looking."
Kile has been one of the premier pitchers in PVBL over the past 3 seasons.
Kile is 52-19 over the last three years with a 3.00 ERA in 645.2 IP. In 98
career starts, he has 435 strike outs, and hitters have managed a meager
.239 BA against him.
"We know what we gave up," admitted Galena owner/GM Matthew Peck, "but the
truth of the matter is we could afford to give him up. My minor league
coaches tell me we have three young pitchers that are ready to step it up to
the major league level. We are especially high on RHP Jesse Wynne. He's
been clocked at 100mph! He probably has the inside track to the #5 spot in
the rotation at this time."
