The AllKnighters have made their third trade within the past week. The
AllKnighters sent LHP Nigel Fernandez and LOW 2B prospect Dick Milligan
to Albany, formerly the Kamloops Bears, in exchange for LF Prospect Chad
Hermensen.
"We have been after Chad since he was taken with the #1 overall pick in
the 2000 ammy draft. At that time to acquire him it would have cost us
Scott Sanders and Quentin McCraken for Hermansen and Steve Karsay, and
we didn't feel it was worth it. Obviously we are much happier with this
package," said GM Michael Kennedy, "This gives us an awesome crop of
young OF's that should eventually make a mark around the 2002 season."
In an effort to build a winning franchise from within, recent trades
have netted RF Karim Garcia, LF Chad Hermensen, CF Webb Messenger and 2B
Paul Pierce, all at the LOW minor league level, and LF Ryan Klesko. Add
this to the allready existing top prospects LF Earl Zavaras, and SP's
Carlos Cotter and Russ Ortiz and a couple 2001 first rd picks, and the
AllKnighters appear to have a great start on their long term plan,
turning a barren farm system into one of the more fertile in the PVBL.
The team is allready stocked with young superstar talent at the major
league level.
