With the trading deadline drawing near the Ann Arbor AllKnighters have
pulled the trigger on another deal dealing away some veterans. The team
sent DH Cecil Fielder, RP Gary DellaVentura and RF Sherman Obando to
Battle Axe for speed demon 2B Paul Pierce, LF Ryan Klesko and their
first round ammy pick.
The deal is on the heels of another cost cutting move by the
AllKnighters when they sent RF Jay Buhner to Punxatawney for RF Karim
Garica and CF Webb Messenger. This gives the AllKnighters a fine start
in rebulding their underachieving franchise as the team still has a
spectacular core of talented young players including Johnny Damon, Scott
Stahoviak, Luis Melter and Quentin McCraken. Ann Arbor has the likes of
five talented starting pitchers, with the oldest being 28, Pedro
Martinez, Scott Sanders, Paul Wilson, Ira Colon and Carlos Perez. The
team also has plans to protect 2B Eric Young.
The team still has some players to move, namely top lefty reliever Nigel
Fernandez, 3B Scott Brosius, Dwight Gooden and Paul Quantril.
