Jaha Da 'Bom, Anchorage Takes Series Lead October 14, 2000
Mississauga ONT (AP) - John Jaha unleashed a load of long-balls in route to
a 10-8 victory in the LCS Game 3 slugfest. Jaha, who is an unrestricted
free agent after this season, hit three home runs and drove in six of the
Abominations' ten runs. "It feels good to be able to lift the team and
carry them. This team is really special. We have something good going here."
said Jaha in the post-game press conference.
Miguel Cairo also had a huge day for the Abominations, as their offense
plummelled the Maple Dogs' pitching for 17 hits. Cairo went 3-for-4 with
a double, a home run, and two RBIs. "Its good to be able to help out the
pitching staff. They've had some problems and we have too." said Cairo.
"Two more wins and then its the big dance."
Anchorage's number one starter during the regular season struggled again
in the post-season. Mike Bottenfield gave up 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings and
five earned runs. "He has struggled for us, but we need him to come through
for us in the playoffs. I have a lot of faith in him." said pitching coach
Chuck Crim.
In a surprising move, manager Nick Tulach started Bottenfield ahead of Jones,
who was scheduled to start Game 3. "Bobby will be fresh for us later on
in the series. I want him available to close them out." said Tulach. Resting
Jones, among other unorthodox moves, has become a trademark for the 'Boms.
"We like to shake things up. Once you get predictable, you start to lose."
said Tulach.
Anchorage had Mike Bottenfield scheduled to start Game 4, so it is unknown
who will be the starter in Game 4. Tulach has Scott Aldred, Jones, and possibly
Buddy Moisan well rested and available.
