Anchorage Slammed in a Grand Way in Game Two October 7, 2000
Anchorage AK (AP) - Anchorage's hopes of a sweep -- and an easy series -- were
trashed yesterday behind another unlikely hero in this series of unlikely
heroes. Galena designated hitter Roberto Petagine came up grand in game two
with his sixth inning grand slam off of Anchorage reliever Mike Holtz.
Holtz, who has struggled greatly late in the season, came in to relieve
Willie VanLandingham who had loaded the bases. After walking in a run,
Holtz then gave up the grand slam to Petagine. "He hasn't been as dominating
as he was early in the year. Unfortunately, now is when it counts the most."
said manager Nick Tulach.
Anchorage players are still very confident, despite the loss. "We had that
game won. We shouldn't have any problem in Galena. We're a great road team
and should be able to mop them (the Hamsters) up in the next couple games."
said catcher Chuck Lynn. "We ain't afraid of no ghosts... Or Hamsters." said
Eddie Guardado.
Anchorage is scheduled to start lefty Scott Aldred, though Bobby Jones has
four days rest, should Tulach wish to use his All-Star pitcher in Game 3.
