Medina (AP) - In the first of an unlikely back to back set of four game series',
the Abominations won three of four from the worst team in PVBL, the Medina
Mustangs. Anchorage has upped its record to 8-5, but still remains 1 1/2 games
back of Ann Arbor and Galena.
Anchorage rebounded well from the the Ann Arbor sweep to win the long series
with Medina. "[The sweep] was a real setback for us, but the guys proved that
they have what it takes to put that behind them." said manager Nick Tulach.
Anchorage's hitting has come around in the Medina series. Twice the team
was able to put up 13 run-games. Pitching has been somewhat lacking, but Tulach
is optimistic that it isn't a problem. "Something got messed up with our
rotation. The PVBL Gods were crazy for a bit and Willie (VanLandingham)
somehow got an extra start and that forced us to struggle in a couple games."
said Tulach. "Hopefully it won't happen again."
Anchorage travels to Kamloops next for a four game series and then back home
to face Galena. "These back-to-back four game series' are tough, but I'll
try to rest some guys and we'll see what happens when we come home against
Galena. We can't afford a let down there. That's what destroyed our whole
season last year." said Tulach.
Lance Johnson and Jeff Cirillo have been on fire lately. After a slow start,
their bats have really exploded. Both are hitting above .350 now. Lance has
scored 11 runs and Cirillo has drove in 9. Jaha, despite his 12 strikeouts
and .246 batting average, has hit three homeruns and driven in nine as well.
Mike Lieberthal is really struggling at the plate. He is batting .273, but has
yet to hit an extra base hit. He has also driven in just two runs. Look for
Anchorage to revamp its lineup to get someone else in the #5 position to
contribute more.
