Anchorage Wins Three of Four From Blazers April 13, 2000
Anchorage AK (AP) - The Abominations are again off to a fast start, similar
to last season. Except this year it has been the pitching that has been
stellar. Kamloops (3-4) was the latest opponent to face the untouchable
Abomination pitching staff.
Pitching coach Chuck Crim has worked hard with the young Anchorage pitching
staff to develop each player individually. "I think it says a lot, these
first couple games, on how hard work during the off-season can pay off come
April." said Crim. "I'm sure we'll have our rough outings, but I told the guys
to keep working hard and it'll pay off." The Abominations' team ERA is 0.67
after seven games.
The starters have been particularly effective. All seven starts have been
quality starts and only one starter has given up any earned runs -- Buddy
Moisan. "The guys are really harping on me. But I just tell them we'll see
who's laughing at the end of the year." said Moisan. He has given up three
runs in nine innings. Moisan is scheduled to start game three of the upcoming
Ann Arbor series, which will be Anchorage's first trip on the road.
Ann Arbor has played well, despite losing their starting left fielder for
possibly the season. "They still have plenty of weapons on offense and that
great pitching staff. Its gonna be a battle." said owner/manager Nick Tulach.
Ann Arbor, Galena, and Anchorage are all in a three-way tie for first in the
Spock Division. "Of course, we are the surprise team again this season. We
just want to continue to surprise and not have a let-down like last year."
said Tulach.
Anchorage will face Paul Wilson, Paul Quantrill, and Ira Colon in the series
at Ann Arbor. The Abominations will send Willie VanLandingham, Scott Aldred,
and Moisan to the mound against the AllKnighters.
