PVBL: Thunder Bay Storm
Marty Cordova Out For 4-6 Months

April 24, 1999

The Thunder Bay Storm's hopes for making the playoffs took a serious blow yesterday when Marty Cordova went down with a torn tricep durign yesterday's 20-4 blowout win over Medina. Cordova swung at a ball in the dirt and clutched his arm immediately. He walked back to the dugout and went straight to the locker room. Trainer Ron McClain took him to the hospital immediately and phoned back later in the game when the diagnosis was made. "Yeah, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, well, Marty might be out the rest of the season." McClain told owner Jesse Gouldson. "I think he broke out into tears, there was definately some sobbing on the other line." McClain went on to tell reporters during the press conference. "It's also really odd that he isn't here now. I guess he's just on the phones trying to get a Centerfielder, that's my only guess." McClain continued. "And of course I'm assuming that Gwynn is on the block, he has been all season, and I've heard that Rod Lewis is also there along with the other bench veterans, since we've got Nomar and Mike (Metcalfe) there for years to come.". Gouldson was able to be reached by phone but this time became very depressed when asked if he thought his team still has a chance for postseason play. He promptly responded that the Storm is still and always will be the best team in the PVBL, slurring his words all through the conversation with what sounded like a bottle breaking when he hung up the phone.
