In a much expected deal the Tampa Bay Mets sent Closer Troy Percival to the
Hartford Whalers. In return the Mets obtain youngster Tony Saunders and a 2nd
round draft pick in the ammy draft. Mets GM Chris McMurtry said this about
Percival "It was great having him close games for us, but its time to move on.
Now we have Harshman in the minors to be are closer and if doesn't work we
still have Norm (Charlton) or maybe even Doc (Gooden)."
Saunders will fit in to the rotation nicely, which features rookie Rick Reed,
Donovan Osbrone, Carlos Perez, and either Carlos Castillo or veteran Tim
Belcher or even Marc Valdes. The Mets are moving injure prone Roger Pavlik to
the bullpen and one time starter Dwight Gooden maybe to closer to set up
man....
