PVBL: Spokane Pirates
One Inning, One Save

June 18, 1999

-from the Spokesman Review

Newly acquired Troy Percival gave the Spokane fans something they have not seen many of. A Save. David Cone gave eight great innings, giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits. Then handed the reigns to Percival. Who allowed one hit, one walk and struck out one for the save.

"It's nice watching from the dugout without that feeling of dread", said Cone."I mean, you go out there and pitch your ass off, and well, in the past I have watched it all go away. Now I don't argue with {pitching coach} McMullen, he said I was done, and I felt safe."

Hal Morris, another new face in the Pirates line-up, also made an immediate impact with a two run homer in the seventh, which proved to be the game winner.

News and notes:

The veteran Pirates are looking to win this year. They are willing to trade away the farm and all future picks, (which includes 2 first rounders in the FA draft next year.) If you are going with a youth movement and want to trade a veteran with good contact (speed is a nice bonus, but what can I expect) Spokane has some young pitching and good draft picks to offer.
