December 5, 1999

The same day that a new owner bought the team, CF Brett Butler and right-fielder Buckshot Redux announced their retirements. Butler played in 145 PVBL games, acquiring a batting average of .265, 24 doubles, 7 home runs, 39 stolen bases and ended up with a fielding percentage of .978. Redux played in 95 games, hit 5 home runs and had a batting average of .184.

News from the front office has been sparse, but some rumors have drifted out to the press. There are strong indications that the team will remain in Sacramento, and that they will likely play in the same stadium. The only solid news from the organization is a confirmation of the team will use a new nickname, the River Otters. The only other news is that pitcher Ezra Hanyzeski is likely to be dropped, and that CF Roger Cedeno and RF J.D. Drew will attend spring training. Drew has progressed rapidly in the minors and is likely to have a solid rookie season.
