PVBL: Sacramento Knights
Knights Sign J.D. Drew

June 18, 1999

In a move that might put Knights G.M, Sean George, on bad terms with other G.M.'s, The Knights picked RF J.D. Drew with the 3rd pick in the draft. Sacramento is hoping that Drew will provide some offense for the knights whose team has not been scoring runs. The only problem right now is that Drew will likely not step foot on a professional field due to the fact that his agent, Scott Boras, is asking for an astronomical amount of money. Boras is asking for no less than a $10 million signing bonus while the Knights will only give $2.5 million. The Knights aren't in a rush to get Drew into the big leagues this year because they are not playing up to expectations and are, again, in last place. They are hoping that he can come in next year and produce for the team. The drafting of Drew also makes Troy O'leary (51CH, 94PH) and Melvin Nieves (49CH, 94PH) expendable.

G.M. Sean George had this to say about Drew, "If J.D. Drew plays up to his potential, he can be a great player. He has all the tools, he is only 22, he has great power, a good bat, speed, he has a good glove in RF and he has a strong arm. Hopefully we can get him signed and he can produce for us.'
