PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Maddux to Get Rest

September 16, 1999

-With 15 games remaining, the Outlaws (88-59) have an outside chance of hitting the 100 win mark.

-The Outlaw brain-trust have decided that Greg Maddux, Todd Stottlemyre, Jeff Fassero, and Mark Leiter will each get skipped in the rotation for at least one turn, to help prepare for the Playoffs. Rick Aguleria (who has looked dominating since being called up on September 1, Wally Lindsey, Bill Risley, and Rick Reed will start instead.

-With a 7 1/2 game lead on Montreal, Deadwood Manager Don Slaught will rest the regulars more often now. It was assumed that 3B Scott Brosius would sit out until the playoffs, but he will continue to play, even with his bruised heel. "We'd like for him to sit, but he just refuses, and want's to play," said Slaught.

-GM Philip Raisor has already decided who will be protected in the Free Agent Plan Draft. Raisor has chosen to protect: 2B Roberto Alomar, RHP Greg Maddux, INF Travis Fryman, 1B/OF Brad Fullmer, RF Tim Salmon, and 1B Rafael Palmerio.

Left unprotected are: CF Steve Finley, RHP Todd Stottlemyre, RHP Randy Myers, RHP Billy Taylor, LHP Norm Charlton, RHP Rick Reed, 3B Scott Brosius, LHP Jeff Fassero, and many others.

"We're going to lose a big name player, no question. But we're pretty deep on the major league roster, so we should be ok," said the GM.
