Montreal, Canada...This morning Canadian authorites arrested former Olympic
security guard Richard Jewell, now currently head of security of the
Montreal Royals, as the mastermind behind the attacks on Deadwood Outlaws
players Eric Davis and Cecil Fielder. Police say that Jewell and girlfriend
Tanya Harding conspired to injure the Outlaw players in an attempt to hurt
Deadwood's chances at a division title. Harding is still on the lose, and it
is assumed that she has fled the country.
Jewell faces an extridiction hearing on Monday, and had no comment on the
attacks.
Royal's owner, Peter Carbonetto was stunned when he heard the news, "I can't
believe one of my employees would do such a thing." Rumors have gone on for
weeks that Canadian and American authorities have considered Carbonetto a
suspect in the attacks, but no official charges have been filed, and after
the Jewell arrest, it is expected that Carbonetto will be cleared of any
wrong doing.
Meanwhile, Cecil Fielder contiues to recover from back surgery, and is
expected to be fully recovered for Spring Training. Davis, on the other
hand, has probably played in his last game after suffering a fractured neck.
While he has not announced his retirement yet, he is expected to after the
season is over.
