PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Six Games Up

August 11, 1999

(Deadwood, SD)..When OF Eric Davis and DH Cecil Fielder went down for the season, it was thought that the Outlaws would struggle. At least until replacements could be found. Instead, the Outlaws have gone on a tear, winning 9 of the last 10 games, and have taken a commanding 6 game lead in the McCoy (Damnit Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a Dvision!" The Outlaws have done it this season with an, almost, perfectly balanced offense. While not having any one player with over 30 homeruns, the outlaws have NINE players (including Davis and Fielder) with double diget homers. The pitching has also been balanced. Greg Maddux and Todd Stottlemyre lead the club with 11 wins each, while Jeff Fassero has won 10. The only post season award candidate is LF Brad Fullmer, who should win rookie of the year, but other then that, the club is filled with steady, if not spectacular players.

Outlaw manger Don Slaught is proud of his players, "This is the best team that we've had here in Deadwood. I'm really proud how the guys have pulled together after the injuries to Eric and Fielder. In fact, we've been hurt by injuries all year, but when one guy goes down, two or three really step it up."
