PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Slaught Deactivated, Moyer Out of Rotation

June 9, 1999

Player Moves:

-Deadwood Skipper, Don Slaught has taken himself off the active roster. In his place, veteren backstop Brooks Fordyce will backup Mike Stanley. "I think this is best for the team," said Slaught. "I'll get to spend more of my time managing the team, rather then trying to stay in playing shape in case Stanley gets hurt." Stanley has played every inning of every game so far this year. Slaught intends to rest Stanley a little bit now that the Outlaws have over a five game lead in the division.

-LHP Jamie Moyer will be skipped at least one time in the rotation after a 193 pitch marathon complete game loss. Moyer gave up 16 earned runs, and saw his ERA baloon from under three runs a game to over four. Recently recalled RHP Rick Aguleria will take Moyer's place in the rotation for the time being.

-INF Julio Franco has accepted Outlaw GM Phil Raisor's inventation to become the new hitting instructor for the AAA Dodge City Marshalls. Franco is expected to take over the same position for the big club next year. Franco was recently demoted from the Outlaws afer the reaquisition of 1B Tino Martinez. "We're happy Julio has decided to remain an Outlaw now that his playing days are probably over. " said Raisor. Franco does not rule out a comeback at some time in the near future, but is content to help coach the struggling Marshalls: "This is a great opportuntity for me. It'll help me stay part of the game, while I consider what I want to do in the future."

Trade Talks:

-Rumors continue that GM Phil Raisor is close to pulling the trigger on a deal that will bring another starting pitcher into the fold. While Raisor had no comment, sources close to the team indicate a trade involving a former first round starting pitcher may be close. It is believed that the Outlaws would be giving up it's two second round picks in the upcomming draft, along with a minor leaguer for the starter...

Injuries:

-RHP Jose RIjo will miss the rest of the season with a strained tricep muscle in his throwing arm. He is expected to be ready in time for Spring Training next year.

-RHP Billy Taylor (stretched ulnar nerve) should return in 6-8 weeks.
