PVBL: Deadwood Outlaws
Outlaws Bolster Offense!

May 19, 1999

Outlaws' GM Phil Raisor has made to seperate trades late today to bolster an already impressive lineup. First he traded ace RHP Scott Erickson to Houston for former Outlaws 1B Tino Martinez and RHP Todd Stottlemyre. Martinez was lost in this year's free agent plan, and it was well known that Raisor was eager to get him back. "Tino is the glue that holds this lineup together, it was very important for us to get him back. Todd's a solid pitcher, and we're happy to get him back."

In Raisor's second trade of the day, he sent 1B/3B John Mabry and the Outlaw's first round pick in the upcoming amateur drat to Duluth for 3B Scott Brocious. Raisor believes this was an important move: "Brocious is a great defensive player and allows Travis Fryman to move to ss, with Chris Gomez coming off the bench. These two deals probably makes us the team to beat in the McCoy division."

The trade of Erickson leaves RHP Greg Maddux, who is still trying to regain his Cy Young winning form, as the ace of the Outlaw's rotation. He has pitched better in his last two starts, so Raisor felt the time was right to trade Erickson. Raisor states, "Assuming Greg can come all the way back, and Jeff Fassero can work out his troubles in the bullpen and return to the rotation, we should be set for the rest of the year."
