Frank Thomas has been eating his spinach (possibly confused with andro).
He's now 1 behind Mark McGwire's PVBL home run record of 57. And there's a
month of the season left. Frank Thomas already broke Bobby Higginson's EL
season home run record of 53 last week.
When will Frank Thomas hit #58 and #59? Will it be in Montreal? Thomas's
#57 has already been sold at $180,000. Reportedly, his 59th home run will
be worth close to a million bucks.
Amazingly, the Montreal DH has already surpassed the 200-hit mark with
30-odd games to go. And he took over has RBI leader yesterday, and is now
leading Higginson by 1 RBI. If the season ended today, he would be the
Triple Crown winner, succeeding Bobby Higginson.
"These numbers won't mean anything if we can't make it to the playoffs,"
commented Frank Thomas. The Royals stand at 4 games behind their division
rivals, the Deadwood Outlaws.
On Tuesday, the Royals play a crucial series against the Outlaws.
Thomas hasn't been the only one cranking home runs for Montreal. Rusty
Greer now has 31 home runs on the year, and is now 10th in the league in
RBIs, with 89.
