When Frank Thomas hits a home run, his team has won 18 games and lost 19.
Not a good record for the Big Hurt.
"You can't win a game on home runs," said the Royals' new DH, who has 44
now on the year. Thomas hit 3 home runs in the last 2 games, but the Royals
ended up losing both. The Outlaws, meanwhile, won 1 of their last 2 games
and took over first place.
On Thursday, Frank Thomas drove in the Royals' only run as they lost 3-1 to
the Hartford Whalers.
Yesterday, Thomas went 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and driving in 4, but Steve
Cooke couldn't get out of an 8-run 6th inning. (And consequently was
demoted to the AAA Augusta Trappers.) The Royals lost 13-10 against the
Edmonton Oil Kings.
Jose Cruz Jr. slugged 3 home runs, and became the first Oil King to hit two
home runs in the same inning.
Edmonton continues frustrate the Royals pitchers. In July, the Royals have
played 5 games against the Oil Kings and they have scored at least 10 runs
in 4 of those games.
The Royals have only won 1 game in July against Edmonton. They have 2 more
to play. Let's see how they do...
