MONTREAL (CP)--Hopefully, pitcher Jose Fusselman will be the solid
lefthanded reliever the Royals have been lacking this season. "We've been
blessed with an excellent relief this season," says manager Carter. "We
can't ask anything more from Mesa, Simas, Skinner and Hetrick."
Fusselman, who has yet to play in 1999, has been immediately inserted into
the lineup after coming to Montreal. He has a 4.97 ERA for his career, with
a 4-3 record.
The veteran outfielder Tony Phillips, one of the best bench players in the
league, was involved in the 2-player trade. Phillips is batting .327 this
season in 17 games, .300 coming off the bench.
