Just before his start yesterday, Rueter was ironing his shirt and accidentally did his thumb, too. "I put ice on it right away," said Rueter, "but my skin bubbled up really quickly."
Luis Andujar was already warming up, but Rueter said he could pitch, even though he would have to pitch without his changeup.
Before the end of the inning, the Deadwood batters made an appeal to the umpire, saying that Rueter was using spitballs. The umpire, after examination, ejected the Montreal starter. It turned out puss was coming out Rueter's thumb everytime he threw.
