After reports in the Thunder Bay newspapers that Frank Thomas had been using the over-the-counter drug, Androstenedione, word is leaking out of the Royals clubhouse that some players are doing the same.
This isn't it anything new.
Rusty Greer denies any claims of using drugs. "I know that some players are jealous of me because my success comes from one thing only: hard work."
Thirdbaseman Gary Gaetti, Mike Lansing and Pokey Reese all admited to using the legalized drug.
Lansing wasn't apologetic. "In baseball, players are trying to get every advantage they can to improve in this game. And why shouldn't they?
"If people are looking to criticize someone, look to the guys upstairs. It's nothing but the fault of the league. As long as it's legal, players are not going to stop even if it's killing 'em."
Hal Morris, who lead the team in RBIs last year, said he used Androstenedione during the pennant drive last year, but resolved to quit before this year's spring training. He didn't state his reasons for quitting, but there are rumours that it was the coaching staff who convinced the him to stop.
