PVBL: Montreal Royals
Samuel on Fire

April 19, 1999

MONTREAL (CP)--Despite the 15-5 shelling in the hands of the Whalers, the Royals club remains optimistic. Juan Samuel led the Royals offense with two solo home runs, who has been leading the team in scoring over the past week. Reese and Lansing also home runs. The "big guns", Greer, White and Bonilla, continue to struggle. Combined, they went 2-for-11.

Schmidt (0-3) was accredited with the loss, giving up 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings. But the real blow can in the top of the 9th, when reliever Luis Andujar allowed 7 runs on 9 hits. Hartford got 21 hits in the game.

Errors also continue to plague the Royals, who lead the league in errors last year. Mike Lansing commited an error in the 4th inning.

Montreal hit 3 more home runs in yesterday's game (home runs accounted for all 9 runs in both games), but Salomon Torres couldn't hold on to the lead. The Royals lost 5-4 to the Whalers.
