PVBL: Mississauga Maple Dogs
Marty Cordova is Back

September 3, 1999

Marty Cordova comes back from the DL... and not a moment too soon!

The Mississauga MapleDogs didn't make a trade at the deadline this season, even though they are right in the heat of a division and wildcard race in the EL. "It's true we needed some help in the bullpen, but talks just never got anywhere. We tried to get DellaVentura especially, but we felt that Mr. Wright (Battle Ax GM) was just asking too much from us." Gouldson said. Word is that Troy Glaus was the main player in talks and draft picks were also being thrown around.

One of the reasons there was no trade made at the deadline was because Gouldson, as the rest of the team, knew that Marty Cordova was going to be back from the DL. "He's a big hitter and now that we've got him back F.P. can concentrate more on the managerial part of his job. He's been great for us but he knows Marty can get us in to the post season, plus he needs a rest. It's hard to play baseball with no knees."

The MapleDogs continue to be 2.5 games back of wildcard leading New Diggens and 3.0 games back of Kirk leading Motor City. The Maple Dogs start a crucial three game series vs New Diggens and have recent pitching rotation members Brian Rose and Darren Oliver along with the surprise of the staff Steve Trachsel pitching in the series. There is word that Gouldson may soon revert to a 4 man rotation and he could do it in time so the Dogs have 19-game winner Kevin Brown pitching the final game of the New Diggens series.
