Mississauga Making a Charge

The Mississauga Maple Dogs are making their move. In the last month they have gone from underachieveing team to wildcard leader. Their record is now 65-48 and their record in their last ten games has been at 8-2 for some time now.

Owner Jesse Gouldson is giving most of the praise to starting pitcher Kevin Brown. "He's been incredible for us in every aspect. On the mound, in the clubhouse, he's even been giving hitting tips to Reggie, Manny, Nomar and such. I can't give him enough praise." Gouldson said of him. "I'd also like to put to rest this rumour that his nickname in the clubhouse is Brownie. We like to call him Noodles."

He's also a leading candidate for the Cy Young. Jeremi Gonzalez and Darryl Kile of Galena are contenders as is Reggie Jose of New Diggens and perennial Cy Young candidate John Smoltz of Motor City. Who would you choose?

Brown's been trying his best to help out beleaguered Maple Dog starter Rolando Arrojo but even he can't make miracles. "It's frustrating because I know he has the stuff, he knows he has the stuff, everyone knows he has the stuff but he just can't seem to throw consistently. It's sad really. He's a great guy and makes good chili. As soon as he gets some experience he could domnitate this league." Brown said about the dissappointing 30 year old rookie.

The Maple Dogs haven't lead the Kirk Division since early May but they seem ready to take it over any day now. Here's the division and playoff standings so far...
