Mississauga Statement on Cookie Affair June 26, 1999
Mississauga Maple Dogs owner Jesse Gouldson has released an official
statement to the press regarding the ban of "Magical" maple cookies.
"The use of cookies by players should not be regarded as substance
abuse under any circumstances. Especially when it's after a game, not
before. Our management only uses the cookies as a source of motivation
for our club. They get the sugar rush only after a game when they're
celebrating yet another victory. Commissioner Matt Peck is only trying
to hold down the surging franchises of the Great White North. It is
simply a conspiracy to further oppress Canadian baseball teams. Even
with a dollar that's equal to 66 cents in the States, the Maple Dogs and
Royals continue to excel. It has happened before. After the Toronto Blue
Jays of MLB won 2 consecutive World Series the baseball world managed to
fool everyone by aborting the 1994 season when they realized that it was
clear the Montreal Expos were going to capture the fall classic.
Mississauga will cease to serve the cookies after the game on one
condition; everything else that is sweet and tasty must be banned from
players as well."
