The Mississauga Maple Dogs (former Thunder Bay Storm for those of you
who haven't been paying attention!) are on an 8-game win streak,
including two wins against Ann Arbour and a 3 game sweep of Kirk
division leading New Diggens. Why you ask? Well, let's see what the
players have to say...
"Ever since we moved we've been getting these delicious maple cookies
after our games!" says team captain Reggie Jefferson. "Apparently Mr.
Gouldson conducted a sponsorship deal with Dale cookies. They get free
advertising in our stadium and we get free maple cookies when we win.
It's genius!" Jefferson went on to say.
Nomar Garciappara praised them too, "The past series against New
Diggens they've made them in the shape of dogs. It makes them taste
better, honest!" There have also been talks between Gouldson and Dale
executives to market a brand of cookies named, of course, Maple Dogs.
"Man am I glad I've been traded to this team. I'm having a blast here
with these guys." says Curt Schilling, acquired earlier this season.
Player/Manager F.P. Santangelo is perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the
cookies. "What can I say, I'm undefeated as manager and I owe it all to
the cookies. Whenever the team is down all I have to tell them is that
there won't be any maple cookies waiting for us if we don't pull
through. And as a sign of thanks to Nick Tulach for getting me out of
Anchorage, I've sent him a nice box full of cookies."
So while the Kirk remains to be the most competetive division in the
PVBL, with three teams with 40 or more wins, where Tucson's competition
is so tough they're under actually .500, Mississauga is starting to
prove they're for real.
