PVBL: Medina Mustangs
Mustangs Acquire Scott Karl

June 16, 1999

The Medina Mustangs have spent many an hour on the phone the last two days, wheeling and dealing. In the end, it took awhile to sort everything out. The Mustangs sent their #22 pick to Anchorage in exchange for pitcher Scott Karl.

"We felt that Scott is an underrated pitcher. We know that certain managers have shied away from him, but our scouts took a long hard look at him, and we consulted some outside sources, and we think he is going to work out fine." said owner/GM Randy Reese.

The Mustangs got a better pick back, along with another pitcher destined for their starting rotation, when they traded Arthur Rhodes and Pete Harnisch to Montreal for pitcher Jason Schmidt and the #17 overall.

"We are logjammed at reliever." said Reese, "With the additions of Karl and Schmidt, we have Chad Ogea and Ben Hamlin penciled in at middle relief. With Nen entrenched at closer, someone had to be the odd man out. Montreal wanted Rhodes, so we made the deal."

So, Medina traded away two pitchers, received two pitchers, traded away the #22 pick, and received the #17 pick. "Not bad for a couple days of work!" said Reese.
