PVBL: Moncton Moose
Moncton Does the Unthinkable

July 13, 1999

The Moncton Moose want to be a new team. They don't want to be compared to the Calgary Cowboys. To accomplish this, they have to make some changes. This is just what they did today. Doing the unthinkable, dealing their franchise player, that man who is bound to break the home run record inthe PVBL this year, Frank Thomas. Thomas, altough he played well on the field, Thomas did no work off the field to keep a good relationship with his teamates and the public. Of course, we are all reminded of the locker room brawl in which Thomas injured his fellow teamate, utility man Edgardo Alfonzo. Luckily the injury was not severe.

So what did they get in return? Well Thomas was sent packing to Montreal, to join the Royals pennant run. In return the Moose aquired to young pitchers, Joe Hetrick, who will immediately be put in the closer's role, and Salomon Torres, a 24 year old who becomes the ace on a pitching staff that desperatly needs someone to come in and lead the way. Thomas is one of the best in the game, and it was hard to ever thik of dealing him, but it had to be done. And we here really like the two pictchers we got in return. Even though Torres has some work to do on his best pitch, hisfastball, we fell Hetrick's 98 fireball will be very effective.
